Why pre-1978 matters
Lead-based paint was banned in U.S. residential paint in 1978. Homes built before then may have lead paint layers.

Contractors working in pre-1978 housing must be EPA-certified, contain dust, clean with HEPA vacuums, and verify cleanup.
